Video Poker is a popular game that can be gambled on in casinos around the globe, or in your house on your PC, through a web account. The game rules are very straightforward and consist of the player attempting to get the greatest assemblage of cards possible in order to come away with cash. In this respect it is very similar as a normal game of poker, without the involvement with other players. Of course, tactics employed during a physical game of poker, like bluffing, will be useless here.
The game of Video Poker starts when the player puts credits (either tokens, credit slips or money) into the machine and pushes the deal button. A hand of 5 cards will be "given out" on the screen.
The Video Poker machine also has hold buttons, and players will need to now decide which cards to hold and which to discard. For the cards the bettor would like to retain, the ‘hold’ buttons should be pressed so that they light up. The player can choose to keep any number of cards they want, whether it’s all or none.
After the enthusiast has decided on which cards he or she would like to keep, the player will then press ‘draw’, which will mean that any new cards will be needed they will be given out. The hand is now finished, with the Electronic Poker machine analyzing the cards to see if it is the same as any of the winning hands shown on the payout schedule.
Generally, the lowest winning hand on a Video Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the prize money growing for each better hand. A list of common winning hands begins with jacks or better, and moves on to 2 pairs, three of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, 4 of a kinds, straight flushes and last but not least royal flushes. It should be known that the payment schedule can vary from machine to machine, so that skillful gamblers are able to select the most profitable game each time.
After the first round has finished, the player can either decide to stay on and try to to maximize their winnings, or press the ‘collect’ button to retrieve any credits that have been won. Additionally, several styles of the game allow the gambler an opportunity to double their wins, in which case another game is played. There are also variations among specific games, with some decks of cards having wild cards and other varying aspects to enhance playability.
